Miss World Guyana 2016, Nuriyyih Gerrard’s One Act Foundation is using technology to awareness to puzzle around mental health disorders and illness. The group, a talented team of young professionals is currently focused on implementing a successful mental wellness and awareness campaign in collaboration with Ministry of Health and other related NGO’s in Guyana

Mental health is essential to all well being and life’s successes not only personally but also community wise as well as regional and national. It is the cornerstone for the development of our future leaders and the way forward towards progress.

Support is very much in every aspect of one’s life, especially our children and youths. This initiative along with a few others, will serve as an integral resource for our country’s future generations.

Lisa Punch | Miss Guyana 2015

Suicide is prevalent in our society and we all need to do our part in helping to eradicate it all together. Miss World Guyana, Lisa Punch, founded an organization – Prevention of Teenage Suicide, POTS Guyana, in 2014 to help combat the issue in Guyana.

Guyana continues to lead in the per capita suicide rate in the world. The Prevention of Teenage Suicide program is an organization committed to reducing the frequency of teenage suicide deaths and attempts. The organization is being lead by a group of some of the smartest young Guyanese youths. The organization believes that through education, training, and support, they will educate and train other young people to help any teenager depressed and at risk of suicide.

Rafieya Husain | Miss Guyana 2014

RIVAH’s was founded my Rafieya Husain with a mission is to rebuild a strong foundation for young Guyanese experiencing dating violence, a precursor to domestic violence. Rivah serves the people of Guyana and future generations through advocacy, community education, public policy, technical assistance and training, resource sharing and research. RIVAH provides one of the most extensive domestic violence prevention programs in Guyana, which will be based in schools throughout the Regions.

Its mission is to end relationship abuse among young people and provides resources for adults and children experiencing domestic violence throughout Guyana, as well as the work closely with local organizations that serve them.

Anti Bullying

Ruqayyah Boyer | Miss Guyana 2013

Ruqayyah Boyer takes on Domestic Violence with a massive campaign by visiting over 30 schools throughout Georgetown and engaged in a few interactive session on ‘Bullying and Domestic Violence as part of the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ element of the Miss World pageant.
Boyer, who represented the Caribbean American Domestic Violence Awareness Group (CADVA) organization and the Irene Madray Recreational Arts and Resources Centre (IMRARC) addressed the students on issues surrounding the different types of bullying and gender-based violence.
