MAJESTY International, the official license holder of the Miss World Guyana franchise recently concluded its 2022 recruitment casting call to allow young women between the ages of 17 – 26 to vie for the prestigious title of Miss World Guyana 2022 and the opportunity to represent Guyana at the Miss World competition later in the year. The Miss World Guyana national competition seeks to identify a young woman of Guyanese heritage who will ultimately become an ambassador and represent Guyana on the international stage. It also allows for each selected candidate to identify social issues plaguing her community, raise awareness and propose solutions to combat these issues through local and international efforts.

The recruitment cycle received applications from thirty eight aspiring young women but only fourteen were selected as semifinalists. The seven-member decision panel that consisted of the franchise’s core team, awarded semifinalist placements to: Shannon Sooklall, Gishell Massiah, Krystal Collymore, Trevlind Harry, Darisa Christie, Esther Marslowe, Andrea King, Raeshaunna Jones, Arian Richmond, Malinda Ho-A-Lim, Kaitlin Sharma, Anjanie Lall, Emaley Nurse and Naina Pai. These young women will continue their journey by competing at the semifinalist level with several social media inspired challenges inclusive of their BWAP presentations. Miss World Guyana Organization prides itself on ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ which essentially operates on a global scale raising millions every year towards good causes and works in tandem with tens of thousands of unique humanitarian projects across the globe.

In Guyana, past candidates have raised over $53 million dollars in funds from the period 2013 – 2020 from their various community projects under Beauty With a Purpose. This year, the Miss World Guyana nationwide campaign specifically aims to promote all aspects of the Guyanese society and will kick off at the semifinalist stage of the Miss World Guyana national competition where each candidate will create her own literacy campaign under any of the 20 literacy types (example –cultural literary, basic literacy, media literacy, business/financial literacy, etc) that is more aligned to her personal interests and drive.

Following the semifinalist level, only ten will be selected to move forward as finalists where each of them will serve as regional ambassadors of the nation and compete for the coveted title of Miss World Guyana 2022. The grand coronation event will take place on the 21st August, 2022 at a venue to be confirmed soon where Joylyn Conway, the reigning Miss World Guyana will crown her successor at the end of the event.

The winning candidate will ultimately serve as Guyana’s ambassador and represent the country later in the year at the Miss World international pageant. The Miss World competition is the first that Guyana has achieved repeated successes and the ultimate goal will be to bring home the crown this year.
