STATUS OF MISS WORLD GUYANA 2021 COMPETITION

Miss World 2021 will be the 70th edition of the Miss World competition which will be held on December 16, 2021, at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico where Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann Singh will crown her successor at the end of the event. Unfortunately, Guyana will not be represented due to the many challenges facing the local leg of the competition even though the beginning of the year seemed promising. COVID-19 has had an impact on life as we know it.

The virus continues to spread throughout the world as it matures into several more contagious variants which cause break-through cases, irreparable damages, and unprecedented lockdowns. Regulations enforced by the government in an effort to help slow the virus included strict travel bans and mentally taxing “social distancing” measures which in turn crippled the entertainment and the pageant industry. As such, the Miss World Guyana Organization was forced to postpone the 2021 competition to summer 2022. Despite this setback, the local franchise is moving ahead with the implementation of a new eCommerce website, the launch of its Super G YouTube channel series along with the completion of episode 1 of the Victoria Series series as its pilot episode. Additionally, Majesty International, the official Licensed Franchise Holder of Miss World Guyana has entered into a multi-million dollar contract with video production & live streaming company, The Video News Factory, based in the UK  along with teaming up with some awesome Guyanese talents to make a bold move into the film industry.  “We will be giving the world a personal journey beyond the beauty and glamour with our first seasonal series dubbed “ Victoria Regia” the blossoming of Guyana’s national flower and her journey to the Miss World crown”. said Natasha Martindale, Guyana’s National Director for the local franchise.

The 10-episode semi-reality series will be a boost for tourism, entertainment, and the pageant with its worldwide coverage of Guyana like never before and will feature all the elements of fashion, entertainment, mentorship-judging, and unbelievable storytelling.  The series will promote the true values and attributes of the Guyanese woman inclusive of the various aspects of preparation, planning, interviews, and behind-the-scenes activities.
